Whenever I try to go to the update center, IE freezes before loading the
page. I then have to use task manager to close IE. Can anyone tell me why I
can not get to the update page? Thank You

I would run a Spyware/Adware scanner on your computer then try again. You
could try Microsofts Beta version of theirs or the one I like is AdAware by
Lavasoft.

Just ran both of them and still have the same problem. AdAware did find over
200 items though. Still need some help. Thanks for the AdAware idea.

The only other thing I can think of is to disable any popup blockers you may
have installed and try setting IE back to all it's default settings.
From within IE go to Tools-Internet Options and on the Security tab hit the
default button and on theAdvanced tab hit the restore defaults button.

What OS are you running?

I am running XP with SP2. I failed to mention that this might have all
started when I was infected with psguard. Not sure because I always thought
update was running in the background. I paid for xoftspy just before I
downloaded microsoft anity spyware. psguard seems to be gone but not sure if
that is what cause the problem in the first place. I really thank you for
trying to help me with this. I am at a total loss.

I have not started any new pop up blockers. Is there anyway to check when the
last time update ran without going to the site. That might help to determine
when this problem actually started.

Removing the PSGuard hijackware will require posting your HijackThis log to
an appropriate forum, John.

Checking for/Help with Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html or http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30
for expert analysis, not here.**

PS Bear, I have the log, used that tool earlier, just did not know what to do
with it. The only problem is I have no idea what I am looking at and do not
know what to do with the log. What to delete and what to keep.
