Okay, I recently had to repair my Windows XP (home edition) installation
using the OS CD. Since doing so, every time I attempt to go to Windows
Update, the window freezes with nothing loaded, and I am forced to use the
task manager to kill the IE process.

As I just repaired my installation, I am missing a lot of updates. Any help
resolving this is greatly appreciated.

Why can't I download updates?
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

More:

1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

2. You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive...date_codes.htm and/or go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support link in left
pane > Solve problems on your own.

4. Windows Update Checklist:

Okay, I read through the links and things you said, and those are all
solutions for problems ocurring within Windows Update. However, then problem
is that I cannot even open Windows Update, it freezes before anything on the
page loads.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
