Hi All,

I'm experiencing a problem with IE homepage default to Windows update, even
though at Internet Options itself, my intranet url has been set as default
home page.

How can i troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Rgds,

Khairul

Wes,

Empty IE's cache by going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet
Options. On the first page, General, click the Delete Files button under
Temporary Internet Files. Put a check next to Delete offline contents,
then click OK.
On the same General page, under Home Page, enter the URL of the home
page you desire, then click the Use Current button, then Apply, OK.
Does that reset it ?

Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home
page setting

I have tried that and also the steps listed in the link kb/320159 with no
change. IE seems to be redirected by the information in the registry
pertaining to "first home page" but it never seems to reset. My home page
information is retained and works when I click on the Home icon on the tool
bar. Also if I start IE from a URL saved in my favorites or one listed in
just about any type of document IE goes to the URL just as it should, the
problem shows up whenever I start IE with the IE icon, where it should go
directly to my home page. I have IE version
6.0.2900.2180.xsp_sp2gdr.050301.1519. Any additional ideas on how to resolve
this problem would be appreciated, this started after windows updates that
were installed earlier this month.

If you're familiar with editing the registry, we can check some keys
there to see what's going on, Wes.
I'd suspect the issue is coming from
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
What's the Data for Local Page ?

I've seen this happen on a VPC install of XP, but usuallly resetting the
Home Page, clearing IE's cache, History, and Cookies resolves this behavior.

I was able to resolve the issue by changing the data for first home page in
all the keys I found by searching on the string "first home page" I shortened
the URL that was redirecting the browser to windows update to
http://www.microsft.com or deleted the keys I found if I was not sure what
information they were holding. After these changes the browser went to this
site once and the keys for first home page were removed and not replaced as
was being done when the browser was directed to the windows update page.
P.S I saved a copy of the registry before any changes were made. (<:
