IE Internet Options freeze when options changed

When I make any changes to the options on the various tabs within Internet
Options the program will make the changes, but it will then freeze with the
error message (program not responding). It will not return me to IE... the
cursor changes to the hourglass, or the sliding progress meter just runs and
runs without completing the process. I have to use the Task Manager to exit
the running program and get out ot IE. When I go back into IE I find that
the changes have been made, but if I try to do any of a number of things the
program hangs up...
For example: selecting the home page, deleting history files (all of the
other deletions work fine), changing the security levels, or
checking/unchecking any boxes on the advanced tab.

Uninstalled IE7 and went back to IE6. Made no difference. Reinstalled IE7
from the Microsoft Download site. Still have problem. Everything else within
IE7 works fine.

Hope someone can help resolve this issue.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Those with IE7-specific questions or comments are asked to post to and seek
support in this newsgroup: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
