Team,
I have tried to change my home page several times.
Right now I have it as this homepage.
http://espn.go.com/
I want to be able to change my home page from time to time.
I tried to do internet options/post new site/apply, and it doesn't recognize
the new request. it reverts back to espn.com.
I tried also use the home icon and remove all pages. Nonthing doing.
I also get a nortons alert saying i am about to change it and i hit accept,
and nonthing happens. So, I am not sure if it is nortons alerts or IE, I am
using 2006
internet security & IE Version 7.0.5700.6; release candidate.
Can anyone please help with this. It is the only real bug I am experiencing
with the new IE so far, This also happen on IE 6 so i do not think this is a
IE issue. But I figured you guys would how to fix it.

Hi,
These (and probably) other third-party programs can lock the IE homepage.
Examine the settings of security/privacy/antispyware programs for a lock
homepage option.
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Ad-aware Pro
Norton AV 2006
Spyware Blaster
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5
If Zone Alarm is the guilty party, the solution (if you don't want to
uninstall ZA) is to startup in Safe Mode, change the homepage, restart.
Or, download the latest version of Zone Alarm free. This has reportedly been
fixed.

Hope this helps,

Don,
I have these programs you mention, and I do not want to unistall them. I
just need to know what is causing it and how to fix it. As I mention earlier
I have Norton's Internet Security 2006, Spyware, Those are the only two
related programs. I do also have ghost running as well.
Can you tell him how to turn this block off with either of those programs.

Hi Karl,
You don't have to uninstall the programs- just find the option to lock the
homepage and disable it. If you don't want to look through the settings of
those programs to see which one is blocking the homepage change, startup in
Safe Mode (that will disable those programs) Change the homepage. Restart.

See: 315222 - A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP:

I had this problem, too. Solution is to close down (temporarily) Norton and
Webroot. Both have options that stop one (anyone!!) from making changes to
one's own home pages. You can also poke around in these programs and find
the option to disable.
