IE shutting down

I started having a problem with IE after allowing the latest round of Windows
Updates to install. IE runs for a few minutes (just long enough for me to
type most of an email message) and then pops up a message that says "IE has
encountered a problem and needs to close". After I OK that, I get this
message: "Instruction at 0x1002d7db referenced memory at 0x1002d7db. Memory
could not be read" and then it closes and I lose whatever I was working on.
I'm submitting this on another computer, since my WinXP running v.2002 SP2,
won't stay connected long enough to even run a diagnostic.

How can I fix this or, at least, rollback the updates?

Possibly this PC has a malware infection, or an otherwise misbehaving IE
add-on.

Use control panel Internet Options, tab Programs, button "Manage Add-ons",
to disable all non-Microsoft add-ons, and then see whether that fixes it.

Use a good anti-malware program to remove all spyware/adware.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I disabled all the Add-ons that weren't MS or
Adobe, even though they looked like legitimate companies (Google, HP,
Quicktime, Java, etc). For a time, I thought it had solved the problem, but
it still occurs, just not as frequently. I was able to download a weather
radar loop (over a 40Kbps phone line) with no trouble, but as soon as I tried
to go to my bank site, or a page with some type of security, I get the error
and IE shuts down. Any other things I can try?

Thanks,
EllenR

So you seem to have isolated the problem to secure HTTP sites, using the
https protocol.

Google for "Dial-a-fix". Download the archive, double-click the
self-extracting archive to extract the contents, thendouble-click
"Dial-a-fix" from amongst the extracted contents.

Use the facilities of Dial-a-fix to (1) repair Internet Explorer, (2) repair
Cryptographic Services.

Does that fix your problem?

Thanks for the link. I'll try it tonight, but I think I found the problem.
I use VNC to connect to the network at my company and noticed that it was
giving me the same error. So I uninstalled it, downloaded the latest
version, and re-installed. Now IE is behaving normally. Thanks for your
help!
