IE6 Problems after SP2 install

Prior to installing SP2, I scanned my computer for virus', adware and spyware
using three different programs, then ran a scan disk and defrag. SP2
installed with no problems.

When I went to open IE6 after the install, it wouldn't open. I tried with
the internet button on the keyboard, with the icon on the desktop and under
programs. I have cable internet so I always have a connection and it
normally connects and surfs very fast. The hourglass would appear for a
split second and then turn back into the arrow. After about 5 minutes, IE
finally opened up (several times actually; as many times as I had tried to
open it). However, it moved very sluggish and kept freezing up. I couldn't
search by the address bar unless I put the complete address in (http://) and
when I tried to get to some of the sites suggested on this forum for help and
fixes, IE would shut down completely (and I was back at square one). I had
to un-install SP2 to get IE to work correctly again.

Any ideas on what's causing this? Should I forget SP2 altogether?
