Depends on WHICH edition of Windows 7 that you have but never mentioned.
You cannot uninstall below the base version of IE that comes with the
OS. Windows 7 comes with IE8 as its base version.

If you have an edition of Windows 7 that includes support for XP Mode
(Windows Virtual PC, or WVPC), that is a licensed copy of Windows XP.
Windows XP came with IE6 as its base version.

So is your edition one of those listed on the right side of the above
web page? By downloading and installing XP Mode (WVPC), you get a
license of Windows XP and that means it comes with IE6. If not, you'll
have to use VirtualPC 2007 and then install a license of Windows XP in
the guest (virtual machine), or you could use:

This is a loadable VPC image that you can use with VirtualPC 2007. This
VHDs expire after a short time (this last bunch live for 4 months).
I've seen these downloads before with an earlier expiration so I suspect
Microsoft replaces them after 4 months with new VHDs (images) that you
have to download again to continue using them. Since a version of
Windows is included, these are considered trial version VHDs.
