IE7 and Windows Update

I installed IE7 and it worked great but lots of my other internet connections
didn't so I uninstalled it - back to IE6 which works fine but Windows Update
does not work - just hangs - also, Windows Defender won't update since
Windows Update doesn't work. Anyone else with this issue? How do I get
Windows Update to work again after installing and uninstalling IE7? Thanks

Start>Control Panel>Security Center>Automatic Updates>Enter>Then choose
what you want to do. I chose to be notified.

Actually - I was referring to the Windows Update web site - it hangs -
automatic updates was already turned on.
