Windows Automatic Update downloaded IE 7 for instalation. I was running IE 7
Beta. My OS is XP Pro.
When instalation of IE 7 was supposedly complete, the computer restarted and
appears to have reset/re-installled XP Pro. My Documents folder is empty.
Outlook is empty. My Program files still exist, and the drive has 50 out of
60 gigs used- same as it did prior to IE 7 instalation.
I have tried multiple restore points and none of them have worked (error
message of 'can not restore to previous restore point' type message).
Desperate for some help. Unfortunately my back-up is corrupted.
I was running the most recent Norton Internet Security as well as Windows
Defender.

Thanks in advance

Are you in the right profile? Is the old profile corrupt?

How to copy data from one user profile to a new profile

Yes, that was it. WTF! Okay, this must have happened bec. I asked how to turn
off the automatic password sign in, and when the computer restarted it must
have restarted in the Admin. account.
How do I turn that off? How do I turn off the security? I just use this
computer at home.

Thanks

BTW- on my account it did only remove IE7 Beta and now all I have is IE6.
All that heartache for nothing...

You were on the admin account...

It seems complicated, it's not:

Automatic Login:
http://kgiii.info/windows/XP/general/auto_login.html

Remember - you're going to login to YOUR account and not the admin account.
So when you set automatic login make sure you type YOUR account's name
instead of the default administrative account. (And the password of course.)
So pay attention to steps 7 and 8 - pay attention to them carefully. Follow
them to the letter and you can NOT mess up.
