When trying to install IE7 beta it cannot perform automatic validation and
it opens up a web page to validate my windows xp sp2, but this page also
gives a validation error number 0x80080299 (which is not mentioned anywhere
in the KB) saying: Validation Incomplete: Unable to Perform Validation. You
have encountered an unknown error. Please contact your local product support
team for further assistance with this issue.

When i try validating windows through the downloads section it does! This
only happens with IE7 beta installation on several machines.

The Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation check process does not
complete when you try to validate your copy of Windows XP or Windows 2000

For questions and support with the IE7 beta you should post to the IE7 beta
newsgroups or forums.

If something doesn't work in IE7 beta, then you need to remember two
things...
(1) It's /BETA/ software.... and
(2) It's /BETA/ software.... and
(3) It should be /reported/ in the appropriate beta feedback channels.

Oh.. was that three things..... hmm.. well, it is beta software.... (Did I
already say that?)

MSDN subscribers who have downloaded IE7b1 are being pointed to
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general for support/discussion, Lawrence.
"Shady Samir" has already posted there.

Besides, I think this is a windows authentication issue not an IE7 related
issue. The error originates from the Windows Authentication website not from
IE7 so it belongs here, unless there is a separate "genuine program"
newsgroup.

Agreed. I get the same problem and have tried several phone calls to
Microsoft, which, although they were very helpful (to an MSDN
subscriber), didn't help. The problem occurs very early in the
installation before any real work has been done and certainly before
IE7 itself has made an appearance. My copy of Windows is valid - it
checks out fine on the Microsoft validation site. Is it only Shady and
myself that have this problem?

No kidding... <sigh>.... well, even so... this ain't
microsoft.public.internetexplorer. general. :-)

I was under the impression the IE7b1 availability was still pretty limited,
and thus I am very surprised that discussions are being directed to a
/public/ forum!

Thanks for the info.

If you can duplicate the problem in a fully patched IE6 environment, then I
would agree it's a windows authentication issue. If the problem only occurs
in IE7b1, then it's a beta issue and should be discussed in the appropriate
beta support forum.

Most of us here don't have access to the IE7b1 (well.. I should.. in a few
days...), so it'll be difficult to provide you any useful feedback on the
beta product.

Hey Lawrence, relax. It could be an IE7 issue or an authentication issue. I
actually came across a post about this error number in this group that had
nothing to do with IE7. So who knows? I'm taking my chances at the two
related groups. No big deal.

Well, i'd just like to add that it isn't while using IE7b1 at all! It was
during the installation of the product. It seems my problem is the same as
samir's. During the install process it tried to validate, and can't
automatically so it shoots me off to a page for validation, only to get the
error code described above. And a "Unable to validate" msg.

I am an msdn subscriber, and MS hasn't helped me much, with the only
reposnse i get from a phone call being that IE7 is a beta, and is not
supported by microsoft. Wel, hello??? I am not using IE7, i'm trying to
install it.

Either way, has anyone had any relevant info regarding this problem? i
really want to try IE7, but can't. Is this maybe a port issue? Firewall? or
some other system setting within Xp?

And it is impossible to re-create the error with IE6, but if u install
IE7b1, then u should see it. Especially if your computer can't validate the
first time.
btw, the previous links posted do not work. None of the processes have
enabled IE7b to install.

How can this be an IE7b1 issue, if i havnt installed it yet? It sounds more
like there is something else at work.

Thanks
