I have set up a new PC with Windows XP SP3 and IE7.
Windows Update works.

But if I try to install Microsoft Update or Office Update via the Microsoft
web side IE7 crashes. The crash occurs some seconds after I have to confirm
the installation of the ActiveX control.

Any ideas what's wrong or what I can do to install Microsoft Update?

Details? E.g. if that means you are getting a Windows Error Report
what is the Error Signature or what does the Event Viewer show?

What happens if you do this after booting in safe mode with networking?

Note: if you rely only on third-party software for your firewall
you should ensure that you have Windows firewall active
before connecting to the Internet when you try that.

Good luck

Hi Robert,

thank you for the reply.

Crash means an application error occurs (instruction ... at memory ... .
Write to memory failed).
No error report and only the logged application error in the event log.

I think have I found the source of trouble: I have tried to deactivate my
McAfee virus scanner. Now the installation seems to be OK. Maybe it's time to
send a bug report to McAfee :-)

Thank's for your help anyway.
