I too would appreciate seeing any hints or advice to the above problem.

I am having no problems with my internet connection, and can get through to
any website EXCEPT the one that I usually visit the most. IE7 keeps telling
me that the Domain Name Server is down, when I know for a fact (from other
users) that it is not. Also other users on my ISP are able to get through,
so the problem appears to be on my computer.

Try as I might, I just cannot find any answer, and even more infuriating is
the fact that some days I get through no problem....most days though I can`t.

HELP

Hi Roger,

Go to the Control Panel/Programs and Features, click on the link in the left
column to view installed updates. Locate KB937143 and uninstall it, as it
has been reported to cause this problem for some users.

I know I jumped in on this thread, but Roger`s problem seemed similar to mine.

However, I have followed Rick`s advice and deleted the update he mentioned.
After rebooting tho, I still can`t get through to the website in question.

Any other updates known to cause this sort of problem? (which started about
a month ago)

Same problem, started about a month ago. running vista ultimate.
interestingly, this seems to not just be an explorer problem but something to
do with firewall or something - if you try PINGing the sites you are not
reaching from a command prompt, you get a similar message "ping request
could not reach server <<server name>>. Please check the name and try again.

This inidcates it isn't even attempting the ping (there's no timeout
indicated at all, and the response is instantaneous.)

It's either malware or something wierd in vista. I also have several
networked xp boxes that can see these other sites fine. I have uninstalled
norton completely and tried it and I still have problems. Have run malware
and spybot detection to no avail. Not sure what is up.

got it - at least for me:

it has something to do with the norton protection center personal firewall

go into norton and disable the personal firewall, then TURN ON the windows
firewall (go to control panel, security center, firewall). For some reason
this makes everything work for me. I can now view web pages.

Good luck to all - curse you Gates!

Thanks for that, Chezcarson....I tried that, this morning, when I couldn`t
get through...but made no difference!

The biggest problem I have is that it is only an intermittent fault, not a
permanent one.

I`ve just had 3 days uninterrupted access, but have been unable to get
through for most of today (until about an hour ago)

Just can`t figure out what`s happening!

I have the same problem.
I have done a virus scan and spyware/adware scan, flushed the dns cache,
restarted the computer. still nothing.
Weirdly, the sites open using a different browser (Google Chrome) on the
same machine. It seems the issue is restricted to IE7 on one specific machine
only.
I am using XP PRO SP3.
Cheers

Hi,

Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs tab, click on 'manage addons' and
begin disabling those that load with IE.

While this thread looks like it may have died, I thought I would pos
this to anyone still looking for a solution, as I have been off-n-on fo
the past month. What finally worked for me, after many failed attempts
was simply to rest the modem and router. To do this, go to this addres
and follow Method 3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926431. Best o
luck to those still seeking a solution. BTW, I am using Vista OS
