IE7 links not opening!

Most links open fine but some links will not open at all. I have tried
opening Internet Explorer with no add-ons to see if the problem lies with any
of my add-ons. I have also reset IE7 to try to resolve the issue and made
sure that IE is my default browser and that it has all its defaults - but
still some links on some very reputable websites are not opening! What could
be causing this?

I am using Vista Home Premium SP2 on a HP Pavillion a6632uk with a tri-core
processor and 3gb RAM

Why is it always so hard to find the information you need on the Microsoft
site?!!

Hello,

Which kind of links fail? Can you give us a link to the page that has the
problem of links not working?

Hi, I had this problem a while ago and I got this help from these newsgroups
and it fixed the problem.
You could try this although I have Vista now and this fix was for XP:

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Neither of the links in the email from Microsoft Community Notification about
this topic opened!

But I've just discovered what the problem is! It's Kaspersky Internet
Security 2010!!!I've just exited it and clicked on the links in the mail
again - and they opened! So it's definitely Kaspersky's IS suite that is
preventing me from opening links, even with the default settings! Didn't have
this problem with the 2009 version. But the 2010 version is so complicated to
configure that I can't find out which settings I have to change to enable me
to open links. I've sent them a support request asking for some clear
instructions and will post back and let everyone know what they advise.

Is KAV/KIS 2010 released software? I thought it was still in beta.

All I know is that I had problems installing my retail 2009 version and sent
a support request and they sent me a link to download the latest version
kis9.0.0.459EN from
http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/kis_lates...link=206910647 KIS
How could I find out if it is a beta version or a released version?

Thanks Maeve. I couldn't find File Types in Folder Options in Vista. But I
took a chance and ran the regsvr32 urlmon.dll and it seems to have helped
somehow! :-)

But I'd like to know what running this dll actually does, if anyone knows?
Because perhaps it might help with problems my daughter is having with keep
losing her internet connection when she's connected with her 3 mobile
broadband dongle?

I have read the info on the two pages you recommended PA Bear. But I'm not
quite sure how you thought any of it would help, other than perhaps the first
Main Issue cited:
"Incorrect import of application rules in Application Control component is
possible after updating Kaspersky Internet Security from version 2009 to
version 2010. To fix this problem, you are advised to restore the settings
using configuration wizard"?

Although I have saved a copy of the release notes and the documentation to
my PC as they may be useful for future reference. And by visiting the site, I
did find that Kaspersky 2010 build 9.0.0.459 is a released version and not a
Beta version, as Leonard Grey suggested. So that cleared up that query!

But happily running the regsvr32 urlmon.dll seems to have cured the problem
anyway - thank you so much Maeve :-)
