IE7 is missing from WU and MU websites???

I reformatted Friday and when I went to get updates for XP SP2, there were 84
high priority updates, but IE7 was NOT among them. It was also NOT among the
optional updates. I waited until Tuesday afternoon, hoping that the newest
version of IE7 would finally appear at the MU website. NO JOY! What's wrong
Microsoft???

Either somebody has screwed up, or the particular MU server I have to use is
boinkers. I even reformatted AGAIN, thinking there was something wrong here
on my end. Nope. IE7 is still not there for me as of today, Oct. 10 at
12:38PM!

(I know I can get it from the download center, but I should not have to. It
should be available at WU before I install security software and start
browsing about the Internet!)

Yup, soon after the "re-release" of IE7 on October 4th (see
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...-7-update.aspx)
IE7 vanished from Windows/Microsoft/AutoUpdate and is still not offered
from there at the moment. Me thinks that's a temporary "issue" and we will
see IE7 there more or less soon and as silent as it vanished.

Perhaps this is why :

It's being UN-WGA'ed. By 'available to all Windows XP users', does that
mean XP RTM and SP1 ?
BTW, it is available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...e/default.mspx

Still no system requirements readily found on that page, either.

Whatever their reason, it has greatly disadvanged those of us who have
genuine Windows and like to install all high priority updates before
installing any 3rd party software. I won't open my browser to any other
website without security software installed except Windows Updates and the
MSN member center to download the dial up software. Now I have to figure out
how to install IE7 successfully with McAfee (McCrappy) installed and
interfering. PITA.

Hello Paul,

If I'm remembering correctly, there were many, many people running XP back a
year ago who were really ****ed that Microsoft had foisted IE7 upon them as
part of Automatic updates.

Back then, in both the XP and IE newsgroups, the question that LOTS of
people were asking was how they could go back to IE6 and never have to worry
about getting IE7 again?

I'm not sure if that's the reason that Microsoft removed IE7 from the AU
list of available updates.

I think you should download separately and save, burn to CD, so you will
always have available. I do that for the major ones. Get from one of these
links and have your MacAfee and other applications disabled when installing.

Further to the post of 'mae' burning to disc I know has worked from this
link

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/B...n&categoryid=7

Make a note/print all the security/criticals first, then type the KB number
in the search box.
After downloading to disc, disconnect from the net, disable ALL
AV/Antispy/Firewall - close any open stuff applications.
Install a couple at a time, then reboot - there were one or two this year
where the re-boot was not offered and they caused problems.
After install check your Add/Remove to see if they are there - but remember,
that is no guarantee they have INSTALLED.
You will only know that after all are installed, you have reconnected,
enabled all your security and do another WU search.
I will say that although this has worked for me and others in the past, it
has not for a few.
I wish you the very best on this - I helped a neighbour earlier this year -
it took two hours to complete - much coffee was consumed :-)
Save the booze for later.

Or even http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...ry/943521.mspx
which would make much more sense to me (and makes me doubt that's the
cause for temporary time-out for IE7 on AU/WU/MU).

Bye,

If you are running a WSUS server the IE7 "updates" are still in the
Update Rollup classification from 4/10/2007.

Or you can get IE7 directly from Microsoft as well.
