IE7 No Longer a High Priority Update???

I just reformatted my XP SP2 PC and got approx. 72 Windows updates. However,
I was NOT offered IE7. What is going on? Has it been taken off WU and MU?
Is this because of problems with IE7 since the Feb. 13th updates? I am in
the US and have always had IE7 available in the past. I can't findn any
annoucements about this change anywhere. Is there something wrong with IE7?

Due the the extensive preparation that you need to take to install IE7,
taking it off of WU was a very good idea on the part of Microsoft and
they should be commended for doing so.

My "advanced preparation" in the past consisted of installing all Windows
updates, including IE7, BEFORE installing any AV or AS programs. I have
installed it without flaw three times in the past. Now I am up and running
with IE6 and all my protective programs are installed. It is only if I
download it NOW that I might have problems. If Microsoft has changed their
basic position about IE7 being a high priority update that everyone needs to
have, then they should make an announcement about it!!!

Disable your AV and AS for the IE7 install - right click them in the tray.
There are a few other things to do, like turning off automatic updates:
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
Microsoft's position now is probably that everyone needs to have Vista.

I noticed this too on clean installs recently. I would like to know and see
a definite correct answer if IE 7.0 has been pulled from Windows Updates. I
asked a few places and no one seems to know.

I know you can still get it from Microsoft via download and manual install.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx

I would think if it was pulled from Windows Updates, it would be pulled too
from the above link ?

So, please if anyone has accurate information on weather IE 7.0 has been
taken off of Windows Updates, please reply.

I am trying to find out if that is the case of if I have some problem with
my system that won't allow IE 7.0 to appear at Windows Updates.

Thanks,
Ed.

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for your reply. I just checked and you are correct. It is now
there under Software Optional. I clicked on the Details link and it says
date last published 02/23/2007.

Yesterday it wasn't there on my clean install. Today it is. I guess they
just decided to have it as Optional now instead of a Priority update as it
was in the past.

Thank You,
Ed.

I read this story about IE7 and indeed I had also downloaded it because they
said I must do so. However, since that time last month I have a lot on
problems on my new upgraded pc (Inter core 2 duo 6300, Asus moterboard
P5L-MX, 120GB Hd, 2GB memory) i.e blue screens, self-reboots, serious error
recovery messages, etc. In two months I have reinstalled/reformatted the HD
three times. The problem goes on. Can any one advise how can I solve it? is
there something wrong with the compatibility of the software (by the way is
the motherboard good for Vista business??) or is it the software and where is
the mistake or the steps I need to take to hv the pc operate without
problems???

Two gigs of RAM is ideal for Vista - run the upgrade advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...deadvisor.mspx

If you wish to do so, you can revert to IE6 in XP via add/remove.
I don't think it is possible to be too paranoid about malware:
