IE8 and Flash Player Incompatible

Flash works in IE8 but whenever I close a page where Flash has run IE8 stops
working.
All was fine until a few months ago but somewhere along the way it has been
broken, either by a Windows Update or Flash update.
I am running Vista 32 Ultimate and this is up to date, as is Flash which I
have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.
I'd really appreciate any help for a fix to this, thanks.

Do you have the same experience when you start Internet Explorer from
the 'no add-ons' icon?

If you have Vista: Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start Search
box > click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Do you have the same experience after you have reset Internet Explorer
settings?

Problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by by malicious
software ('malware') that you have unwittingly installed on your computer.

Web pages that were developed for previous versions of Internet
Explorer, or with proprietary HTML or scripting extensions, might not
function the same way in Internet Explorer 8. Viewing a problematic web
page in IE 8's Compatibility View may help until the developers update
their code.

The problem isn't IE8, it's the Flash Player's incompatibility with 64-bit
architecture.

Click START>ALL PROGRAMS, and scroll down to Internet Explorer. Therer are
two. One of them says 64-bit. Use the other one.

If the suggestions posted by Leonard in this thread do not resolve your
issue, you might try Manually uninstalling the Flash Player and then
Manually reinstalling the Flash Player.

1. Download the following two files and save them to your Desktop

http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

2. Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable any Real-Time
Secruity Application(s) running in the background on your machine.

3. Run the Uninstaller file from the Desktop to completely remove the Flash
Player from your System.

4. Run the Installer file from the Desktop to reinstall the latest version
of the Flash Player.

Since you are using Vista, be sure to run both files as Administrator.

If no joy, navigate to the following folder on your Hard Drive:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

Right click on the file "FlashUtil10c.exe" and run as Administrator. Allow
it to update the Flash Player(you must be on line for this step).

Running IE in no-Addons mode will also disable flash.

Flash works in IE8.... Ok

I close a page where flash has run IE8 stops working.... probably caused by
another Addon. The most common cause is the Google toolbar. Make sure you
have the latest version (6) from toolbar.google.com. All of the major
Toolbar vendors have released new versions for IE8.

You can test this by unchecking "Enable third-party browser extensions" on
the Advanced tab of internet Options and restarting your browser. You can
still see Flash but your toolbars and browser helpers are disabled (not
loaded).

On Vista there is the Start>Control Panel>Problem Reports and Solutions
applet. This lists the names of Addons that have caused IE to crash.
