IE8 and web address dropdown menu issue???

I ALWAYS used the dropdown menu at the very end of the website address at the
very top of IE7 to quickly get to sites that I didn't save for one reason or
another but wanted to get back to quickly.

Upon installing IE8 on my XP system, this no longer functions. If I click
on the down arrow at the end of the web address box, nothing comes up. It
SHOULD show a dropdown menu with recently visited/typed-in sites. Is this
intentional or a problem with IE8?

I'm not a fan of useless change and have used IE 99.9% of the time over the
past 10+ years, so don't really want to try Chrome or other options but this
stuff may force my hand. Frustrating!

My IE 8 holds the urls as did IE 7.

Have you started IE 8 with no addins to see if an addin may be causing the
problem

Rex,
Thanks for the reply. I turned off every add-on that was listed and
restarted, but still no luck.

Internet options -> Content -> AutoComplete -> Settings -> check Browsing
History under Address Bar.

Do you have the option enabled to delete browsing history on exit?

Here you go.

1. Go to Tools->Internet Options
2. Click on the Advanced button
3. Scroll down almost to the bottom and check Empty Temporary Internet
Files folder when browser is closed

<snip - over 5-month old thread>

You are replying to a 5-month old thread. Start your own new thread to
describe YOUR problem giving details about YOUR setup (Windows version, IE
version, how to reproduce the problem, etc). Don't hijack someone else's
thread, especially an ancient one.

--- Posting Hints ---

ALWAYS REVIEW your message before submitting it. You want someone OTHER
than yourself to understand your post. Also remember that no one here is
looking over your shoulder to see at what you are pointing. If you don't
well explain your situation by providing the details that you already know,
don't expect others to know what is your situation. Explain YOUR computing
environment and just what actions you take to reproduce the problem.

Often you get just one chance per potential respondent to elicit a reply
from them. If they skip your post because you gave them nothing to go on
(no details, no versions, no OS, no context) then they will usually move on
to the next post and never return to yours.
