IE8 is having an issue with LL Bean web site

My home PC has developed an issue with displaying content on the LL Bean
website. While browsing their on-line catalog you see a product you would
like to get a closer look at. You click on the small picture and a new
window opens up with zoom controls where you can get a more detailed view.
The only problem is that on my desktop the image loading progress bar goes
to the end and hangs and no picture is ever displayed. My laptop works
fine...both are running XP SP3 with latest flash, java, and XP updates
installed. Something has gotten corrupted on the desktop and I've hit a
brick wall.

I'd appreciate any help tearing down the brick wall.

Hi,
Go to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html See if Flash Player is
working and whether or not you have the latest version (10.0.42.34 it
believe)

Whether or not you pass that test, it wouldn't hurt to uninstall and
reinstall Flash Player.

See this page: Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player installation for Windows:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...nalId=tn_19166
Run the uninstaller program. Don't count on the uninstaller in Add or remove
programs to remove Flash Player completely.

Hope this helps,
Don

I have the same problem using Vista and IE8. There are numerous shopping
sites that Flash Player will not display the image. Yet on other sites I do
not have a problem. I have the latest version of Flash Player and have also
uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. This indicates to me that since
the Flash Player works on some sites but not others, the problem is with the
web site itself and the Webmaster for those sites have not updated their
site to be compatible with the latest version of Flash Player.

Thanks for the replies. In this case I'm convinced it's something amiss with
my desktop box rather that just a flash incompatibility with the LL Bean
site...as I mentioned, my laptop running the same software works just fine
on the image that will NOT work with the desktop. My work computers also
work OK with the same website so I don't think I can fully blame Flash in
this case although I suppose there could be some screwball configuration
glitch peculiarity between Flash and my desktop system. I did visit the
adobe (plus other) flash test page and it indicated it was up to date and
was working properly?

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2;
Win7; Win7 64-bit) as well as your IE version when posting in an IE-specific
forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

Jim,
1. Try clearing (if you haven't already) the Temporary Internet Files.
2. Despite passing the Flash Player test, I would still uninstall/reinstall
Flash Player.
3. Check the security settings info at

I did all of these suggestions and no joy. I also downloaded the latest
drivers for my video card and that didn't help either. I extracted the link
that is driving the flash window and ran that by itself in another tab but
it does the same thing...I included the link below in case that might
provide a clue.

http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/sto...ionIndicator=4

I also disabled my antivirus and lowered my internet security settings
thinking some setting might be interfering with downloading of the image but
that was no help either. I googled up several flash test pages and they all
indicated everything was hunky dory.

I appreciate y'all taking the time to help. I'm not a complete novice at
this stuff but I may have met my Waterloo on this one.

Sorry 'bout that - long day in the trenches...

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

I had the same problem with the LL Bean website and some other shopping
sites as well. The solution is to go the the Adobe flash payer settings web
site at

http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager03.html

Click on the "Global Security Settings Panel" link. Make sure the box
"Allow third party flash content to store data on your computer" is checked.
Also specify the amount of disk space that websites you haven't yet visited
can use to store information on your computer. I have mine set for 10MB.
After I did this, I no longer had the problem.
