I have on the bottom information area, six devisions with nothing in
them. Is there a reason for them as when I move over an anchor on a
webpage, I cant see the complete URL. Can they be removed?

I have not heard of a method to decrease any divisions in the Status
Bar and some of those six divisions are used (perhaps they all are?)
e.g. if you right-click the second, you can turn on/off the Popup
blocker, the 4th will contain a privacy report icon in certain
situations.

It would be better if these where on the top then as this is the place
for them. They take up a lot of space and make the URL practicaly
invisible.

I quite agree. It has been changed in IE9.

There's nothing in them now because there's nothing to tell you about. That
line is called the Status Bar, and you can turn it off by Right Clicking the
menu bar (where there are no icons or menu selections) and deselecting
Status Bar.

Having said that, the Status Bar is beneficial to knowing the Status of your
browser. Just becase there are empty boxes does not mean the boxes are
always empty, or that the rest of the status bar is meaningless. Enjoy the
lack of bad status that is indicated by the empty boxes.

=======================================
What does that mean, make the URL invisible?

The Status Bar has been on the bottom of the screen in IE since the first
days of IE. The current URL is displayed in the Address Line at the top, the
Status Bar displays the destination of a link that the mouse flies over.
