IE8 - missing favorites

toI installed IE8 because my computer kept prompting, though I didn't want
to and wish I never had. I was very happy with IE7.

The problem I now have is that when I click on "Favorites", as per the
instructions, I get my history over the past few weeks instead - but there's
no list of my favorites, which has taken me a long time to create.

How can I get this list to show up, please? I may just end up uninstalling
the ?@##?@ thing and go back to IE7 because of the time this has cost me.

History is only one of 3 tabs that should all be showing up at the top of
the bar, Favorites is the first one, Feeds is the second. You can also go to
the Tools menu at the far right top, select Toolbars and enable the Menu bar
which will give you direct access to your Favorites from the text menu.

Press ALT then click on Favorites in Menu bar at the top: They're there,
right?

Thanks to both of you, RalfG and PA Bear but, unfortunately, the list comes
up under "View by Site" which means that all my carefully identified and
nicely labeled sub-folders have disappeared. The actual web-sites are,
probably, there but now in alphabetical order irrespective of what I had them
listed under - for instance all the gardening sites in the "Gardening" folder
which has diappeared.

Just in case either of you should read this again, and to avoid writing
another post, can you help with the following - the neither the menu "Find on
this page" or Ctrl-F works on any site I've visited since my previous post
but they do work in MS Word and on this "Reply to" page.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you quote all of the previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Most of us are not using that
clunky web-interface you're using and so may not have immediate access to
previous posts in a thread. Thank you.

I'm sorry but I'm only using the box that appears on the IE 8 interface after
following the "Help" links. If that's the "clunky web-interface" you talk of,
I can only apologise but that's the only one I'm given!

In future, should I need help again, I shall quote all previous messages.
Thanks again for your help on this occasion. I may, however, just delete IE8
and re-install IE7 as I think it's, probably, less trouble.

Not-so-Grumpy, now!

Both this and your 'favorites' problem can be fixed with Kai Schätzl's
re-registration utility

I had this problem this morning, after an automatic update from IE7 to IE8.
The favorites folder was completely empty.

The solution to this was to restore a prior version (or 'shadow copy') of
the Favorites folder. Right click on the folder, select restore previous
versions and select a date from which your previous favorites were definitely
in existence.
(This is under Windows Vista with System Restore Enabled)

Good luck,
Ian
