I am using windows XP 64x. When I access my IE8 32 bit it will start to load
the home page and immediatly show an error that it needs to close. It started
acting odd, page change but still old address and slow, and then the fail to
load.

Also, I am getting a Google Installer error that says it needs to shut down.
This will come up several times.

IE 8 64x works fine.

I ran a Malwarebytes and Adware program, and 2 different virus checks

Any suggestion on repair or reload? I am not very good with computer terms
, so any easy to understand help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi ScttLee,

It sounds like you have an old version of the Google Toolbar installed.
Check its version from its Help menu or look in your Windows startup list
(Start>Run>msconfig - Startup tab) for GoogleToolbarUpdater.exe

You should have version 6 installed, or if the GoogleToolbarUpdater.exe is
in your Windows start list you have a horked version 6 that Google tried to
push with an auto-update many months ago. (1 week before IE8 was RTW'ed). It
may be just co-incidence that you have not experienced this problem before
now.

To repair your Google toolbar version.

1. Uninstall the Google Toolbar (and/or) the Google Toolbar Updater using
the Add/Remove Programs applet.

2. !important - Reboot your machine.

3. Go to Toolbar.google.com and download and install the latest version (6).

But wait......

In my Windows Start list (Start>Run>msconfig - Startup tab) I have the entry
for "Google Update" (googleupdate.exe) (part of v6) disabled.
Open IE and select Tools>Manage Addons and select All Addons from the View
dropdown. Then sort your list by Publisher and inspect all of your Google
Addons. It could be that you have the latest version (6) of the GTB
installed but that one of its components (Browser Helper?) is disabled and
so the Googleupdate.exe can't 'talk' to it.

You don't have to have the Google toolbar installed for this to occur. You
may have Picasa or one of their other offerings installed. They all use the
googleupdate.exe that should be in your Windows Startup list. So disabling
your googleupdater.exe in your Windows Startup should do the trick for all
scenarios.

Because the 'Call Home' requests are coming from the Googleupdater.exe,
running IE in no-Addons mode does not detect this issue.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply, but it did not fix it. I deleted Google Toolbar,
rebooted, did the config and disbled Updater and applied, rebooted, installed
Google 6+toolbar (usinf 64x IE) checked add-on, all are enabled. 32x IE8
still gives error and closes upon accessing. And still get Google Installer
error

Hi Sctt,

You did not uninstall the GTB from the Add/Remove Programs first?

"I deleted Google Toolbar"
(clicking the [X] on the left hand side of the Google toolbar just disables
it in IE).

If you just 'deleted' the GTB, you may have screwed things up a bit.....
mmm?

Question:
Do you have Firefox installed, and is it running when you try to launch IE?

Do you know what version of the GTB you had previously installed?

Ok....

go

1. Start>Run>msconfig - Startup tab, find and disable "Google Update" AND
(if present) "Gmail" (gnotify.exe).
Close msconfig without a restart.

2. Start>Control Panel>Internet Options - Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable
third-party browser extensions".
General tab, change your homepage to about:blank and remove any secondary
homepage entries.
Security tab, Trusted sites, 'Sites' button, remove any google sites
(*.google.com) from your Trusted sites list.
Close Internet Options.

3. Restart your computer.

When you restart you should be able to run IE (all of your Addons (Browser
Helpers and Toolbars.... types of addons that cause problems in IE) will not
be loaded) without issues. You may like to leave IE like that for a while to
confirm that the above has stopped your issue.

Then at your leisure....

go

4. Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Locate and Uninstall ANY Google
software that you see listed (I think in XP you can sort your Installed
programs by Publisher which will make it easier to identify all of your
Google software)

5. Check the installation folders of your Google software and confirm that
all traces have been removed. (usually \Program Files\Google)

6. Restart your machine.

7. Open msconfig and confirm that the Google Updater and Gmail have been
permanently removed from your Windows startup.

8. Go to google again and download any of their software you want to
re-install (if you did not save the setup files from your last visit)
(I personally really do not like the Gmail notifier as it is buggy (you
cannot disable the auto-login from its options), that is why I have it
disabled in my Win startup.)

9. Before you run the Google software installation programs, go to Internet
Options and check "Enable third-party browser extensions", restart IE (all
instances), otherwise you will receive (incorrect) error messages from the
Google software installers that your Toolbar installation failed.

10. If you included the Gmail notifier you may be prompted to restart your
machine. Do so anyway.

11. On the next machine restart, Open msconfig and disable the GoogleUpdater
and Gmail from the startup list.

12. Restart.

Hopefully you will be a happy Larry.

Of coarse you can just uninstall all your Google software and be done with
it.

You can still use your Google Search Providers and Accelerators in IE8
without the GTB installed.

Sorry for the complexity of my Answer, but darn the G developers.

Regards.

Sorry, I was not clear. I did uninstall it using the add/remove programs.

Believe it or not, IE8 32 bit is now working (at least this time). Even
though I rebooted and you suggested, it would not work, but turning the
computer off for several hours and starting it worked (so far).

Thanks for your help
