Hi all. I have a problem with a vista machine wherein IE8 seems to have
problems loading flash content. It started in IE7. I've tried removing
and reinstalling flash active x plugin. I've tried deleting temp
internet files and temp flash cache. I've tried going to IE8. I've
also tried removing Kaspersky protection suite which was the only
security software it has besides defender. The machine is not naked to
the internet and it is behind a hardware firewall. All the other
machines behind same hardware firewall do not have problems loading
flash content in IE.

Could defender be mucking this up? How do I disable defender to try
that? Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

When you visit adobe.com, do you see a static image (with "5" made up of
office furniture) or do you see black, blue, and red-colored books
(after the page auto-refreshes)?

What do you see when you go to their version check web page at
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/?

When you look at the list of add-ons in IE8, is the Adobe Flash Player
listed? If so, is it enabled?

Flash Player does NOT work in IE, 64-bit mode.

Thanks for your reply. When I go to
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ all I see is a blank white
space where the flash animation should be and it says in the browser
status bar on the bottom '(2 items remaining) Waiting for
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/...'

When I look at the add-ons in IE8, it shows 'shockwave flash object' as
enabled.

When I go to adobe.com, I see black, blue, and red-colored books.

Did you disable the other 3rd party add-ons in IE, especially any to do
with anti-virus, anti-spam, ad blocking, etc?

What's in your hosts file?

Did you attempt to use IE8's Reset (Internet Options -> Advanced tab)?

I did, and it is displaying the same same problem still.

Thank you VanguardLH so much for your continued help!
What do you suggest I try next?

In the Add/Remove Programs applet, uninstall the Flash Player. That
includes both the AX control (for Internet Explorer) and plug-in (for
Firefox, Safari, etc). Then use Adobe's stand-alone uninstaller
(http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html) to make sure all [well,
most of the] registry and file remnants are removed. Even then, I would
probably go through my file system looking for Adobe folders that could
be deleted for products that have been uninstalled, like under
"%userprofile%\local settings\application data", %appdata%, and
"%programfiles%\Common Files". Then do a fresh install of Flash Player.

If that doesn't work, reboot Windows into its safe mode (with
networking) and retest to see of Flash content plays okay. If it works
then you are loading something on Windows startup or on login that is
causing the interference.

I did do the whole add/remove as you suggest, and it did not fix the
issue. I also booted into safe mode and it still had the same problem.
Thank you again for your continued help! What do you suggest next?

Maybe it is helpful for you to see the issue. Here is a link to a
picture of the problem in IE:

Here is a picture of how it should look in FF:
