Uh-huh...

And you're all running Win7?

Are you all running Win7 64-bit?

Did you upgrade to Win7 or are these all brand-new computers with Win7
preinstalled?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in Win7? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
___?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Does the behavior persist if you start IE8 in No Add-ons mode and/or do a
Reset?

If it's an IE8 issue, why are millions of IE8 users NOT having these
problems?

Hi je,

Looking at the thread and from my own experience.

1. The majority of IE8 problems (all OS versions) are caused by incompatible
Addons.

You have already tried the no-Addons troubleshooting.

Ok.

Next have a look at your Windows Startup list (Start>Run>msconfig - Statup
tab) (there are some 'IE' addons that are launched from here but do not
appear in IE's Addons list... they hijack IE's open connections to call home
to check for updates and this CAN look like a malware attack to IE8 on
XPSP3, Vista and Win7). The symptoms of this is random new tab crashing.
Random because the call home instructions are triggered by different
settings (weekly, monthly, if last check failed etc).

Disable any AOL Updates (AOL LLC), Quicktime Updates, Google Updates, Search
Protection (Yahoo Inc), and the Gmail Notifier (if present).
(AOL and Quicktime software have settings to enable/disable automatic
updates in their respective Control Panels (Settings Dialogs).

***** If you have a program in the startup list called the
GoogleToolbarUpdater.exe then

You have an old (one off) version of the GTB. Uninstall it, then restart
your computer (!important). You can download version 6 from
toolbar.google.com

(The above is not an exhaustive list, you may have other software in your
startup list that shares IE's connections for update check purposes (or
other evil purposes)).

I suspect also since you have turned off Hibernation that some update
software is firing off when your machine is idle, showing errors again when
you resume the screen.

2. Don's suggested fix
If running 32-bit Win7, try downloading, unzipping and running
ie8-rereg.zip from
http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=a...133&artlang=en

Re-registers ALL of IE8's components and is currently being recommended for
some issues that have arisen with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers...
Dell, Susus etc) builds of Win7 (we think?). I am not sure if that fits your
symptoms (all your disks/builds are MS Genuine/originals), but it will not
hurt to run it and to keep it handy if problems occur in the future.

Sitting here now, and reflecting.... my gut feeling is that Ans. #1 will be
your salvation.

Regards.

i have NON of the following happenning...
Next have a look at your Windows Startup list (Start>Run>msconfig - Statup

updates in their respective Control Panels (Settings Dialogs).
aol is on ONLY ONE of the computers...i dont allow ANY automatic
updates...not even windows....i check for updates daily and i dont have
anything yahoo or google on any machine.

the troubleshooter says no issues present and i get this problem before i
even install flash or quicktime or ANYTHING...

the machines are 32 bit....
windows vista with 1.5 gig ram with ie8 downloaded and installed.
HAD the problem in windows 7 beta but not using that now.one with 1.5 gigs
ram and one with 3 gigs ram
HAD the problem in windows 7 rc but not using that now.one with 1.5 gig ram
and one with 3 gigs ram
HAD the problem in windows 7 rtm but not using it now.one with 1.5gig ram
and one with 3 gigs ram
HAVE the problem in a store bought windows 7 with 3 gigs ram
have the problem on a bought upgrade windows 7 with 1.5 gigs ram
friends with bought windows 7 with 1 and 1.5 gigs ram
all but the upgrade is a fresh install.
either avg free or no av (only on one machine)
none came with win7 pre-installed...we all formatted and started fresh
because we LOVE windows 7 (except for the upgrade)
the problem is from "day one" even before doing windows updates.before
installing av software. and after with or without aol software...ive
formatted and re-installed numerous times now.
doesnt matter if no add-ons or setting reset.
this has been an issue since i started using windows 7 from beta versions,
so its been around a year now which is why i am at this newsgroup because
this is the first time since winME that i cant solve some computer issue that
has popped-up on mine or a friends machine.

we all have the same problem which is...
i ALWAYS "open in new window".
the second and third window work fine..but when i open a fourth window
either from the original FIRST or as a "child" from the second or third
"instance" of ie8 the problem starts...of course i can always just copy and
paste the url into the first ie window but then i move away from the original
page i wnted to not navigate away from. and of course i can just close ie and
start over again. and it doesnt matter if its in a new window or new
tab...both actions cause the issue by the 4th OPEN. like i said...im not a
computer expert nor am i a computer idiot, but if i need to ask for help it
is a real issue and my proof is that ive not had to ask for help since
windows millennium.
thank you all for your help and advice and i hope i have given all the info
you might need to think about my issue since many heads are better than one.
thank you agaijn, everyone.

Hi je,

What is your Homepage setting? What security zone does it load in?

On Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, Intranet Zone, Sites button, ensure
your have the correct settings for Intranet Zone. (should be 'Automatically
detect' but could be different if you are using Win7 Homegroup features).
Press the Advanced button also and make sure you have not place the
localhost there. Your security zone settings in all zones should be set to
their default/recommended values)

That’s the only other thing I can think of that may be causing your
problems.

Also go to

Start>Control Panel>Action Center>Troubleshooting>View History

What items (if any) do you have listed there?

Also, you have already run the "Internet Explorer Performance"
troubleshooter. You should also run the "Internet Explorer Safety"
troubleshooter.

Regards.

everything is fine...everything is correct....security says no changes or
updates necessary...one home page is aol.com.....3 home pages are
msn.com...one is black page...i am not part of a home group on any of the
computers...not even a printer installed here or at my 2 friends having the
same issue
everything is set as you ask..in troubleshooting history... the history of
me checking and never anything wrong...no issues...nothing needing changing
or upgrading or updating...as i said i am not a computer idiot and there has
to be something really perplexing me if i need to get help...ive been at this
since the end december 2008? or is that the beginning of jan 2009?
no security issues...no virus issues....no nothing...everything is as it
should be...which is why i find this so perplexing...btw i am also using
vista with ie7 and xp pro with ie7 and no problems...i "float" from computer
to computer to make sure setting are the same or as close to the same as
possible....i also help freinds with ie6 and ie7 and no problems except one
put on ie8 and now she cant open google.com or ask.com, but that a different
thing im trying to solve...anyways...i cant thank you enough for your time,
but you are not offering me any ideas i havent tried over and over
and like i said...ive also re-installed windows several times and this
happens whether i apply updates immediately or surf the web first...doesnt
matter that quicktime isnt installed...or flash...ive been installing as ie
says i need this plugin or that...ie doesnt crash...the 4th open page just
doesnt load...ever...maybe ie8 just hates me..feelings mutual....and to
think...i used to recommend ie over all other browsers ive used....go
figure...well, exactly
LOL
thanks again rob

The time format is the difference between GMT and local time. The difference
is GMT - Local, so you have to add the difference back.

Leonard's post, adjusted: Sun, 27 Dec 2009 17:33:47

Your second post, adusted: Sun, 27 Dec 2009 17:41:01

Difference: Your second post is: 7 minutes 14 seconds *after* his reply. You
need to learn how to read headers. Oh, wait! You can't read the headers. You
are using that abominable MS CDO "HTTP to NNTP thingy"!

I've been using Internet Explorer 8 since MS added it to the 'Microsoft
Updates' site. On two Windows XP MCE; SP3 computers, on Windows XP Home
Edition; SP3 computer, one Windows XP Professional; SP3 compuer, and one
Vista Home Premium; SP2 computer. Not a problem. Not since the day I
installed. I have since upgraded one of the Windows XP MCE computers, and
the Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. As long as I have been running
Internet Explorer 8 on this computers, not a problem.

In addition, I know of four other computer, outside of my premises, running
Internet Explorer 8 without problems.

I only have one add-on in the Windows 7 IE8, two in the Windows Xp IE8. Both
can be easily removed. If I had any problems, those would be the first to go
when troubleshooting.

AOL is a strong lead. Are they your ISP?

To use their sites and use their email services you NEED to have installed
some of their 'software'. The AOL browser adds a custom security zone 5. AOL
Objects to IE's zones. Removing their software leaves this behind so when
you next navigate to one of their sites it places the domain in that custom
security zone.

If when you navigate to your AOL homepage, the security zone icon shows AOL
Objects then this is the cause of your browser crashes. You cannot see this
'AOL Objects' in your Internet Options Security Zones and it is hidden from
users to stop you modifying THEIR settings.

Here is the location of their custom security zone key in the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\5

I think, you will probably find that you have AOL.com or one of its domains
in your Trusted Sites Zone.

******* To correct your problem I think all you have to do is to remove
those AOL sites from your Trusted Sites Zone.

You may however have to go to the registry and manually remove the AOL
custom security zone. Again check with AOL support for any information on
how to correct their mistakes.

If AOL is your ISP then you will be using THEIR custom connection settings.
Check with AOL support to ensure you have Win7 compatible connection
settings. (this would explain why your problem has followed you for over a
year and over several re-builds)

Well I hope I am right and we can pin your problems on AOL and not some
other idiopath(=unknown origin)

Regards.
