Hi,
1. Which web-based e-mail?
2. Which version of Windows? (Including SP level- Windows 7, Vista SP1, XP
SP2 ,etc. Right-click Computer/My Computer> Properties to obtain this
information)

Try these steps:
E-mail problem:
1. Right-click the IE toolbar and make sure that Compatibility View Button
is checked.
2 Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing, see that "Automatically recover from
page layout errors..." is checked.

For slowness and hanging:
1. With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall or re-enable browser add-ons, work
through this article:
936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:

Useful for recovering stored passwords before you clear all stored login
data:
IE PassView- NirSoft:

What a reset of IE settings will do:

2. You may have an incompatible browser add-on installed. (Also covered in
step 1)
For troubleshooting information see:

Problem: Crashes or hangs

Slowness, hanging, crashing, etc. may also be caused by malware (trojans,
hijackers, spyware, etc.) has the computer always been protected by
(automatically updated) programs such as antivirus, security suite,
firewall, etc?
