IE8 settings - I think??

I have been using IE8 for several months on 2 different laptops..I have
installed all updates as recommended..IE8 on both began runninng very slow,
hanging up. It was recommended that I delete or change the settings for
"cookies"..I went into tools/saftey and did just that, deleted cookies. This
helped, however when I went to use my web-based e-mail, which has several
frames, i.e. top of page shows list of e-mails, bottom part of screen shows
which e-mail you are reading, I can no longer scroll in the bottom screen and
the part of the message in overlapped with the address info. This happened
on 1 lap top earlier this summer and I wasn't sure that it was related to the
IE8..but now it has happened on a 2nd system. It works fine in a different
browser so I'm guessing that it is a setting somewhere but I don't know
where..I have also did the IE8 restore default settings and this did not
work. .If this makes sense can anyone help??? I'm so NOT a computer wiz!

Hi,
1. Which web-based e-mail?
2. Which version of Windows? (Including SP level- Windows 7, Vista SP1, XP
SP2 ,etc. Right-click Computer/My Computer> Properties to obtain this
information)
- - -
Try these steps:
E-mail problem:
1. Right-click the IE toolbar and make sure that Compatibility View Button
is checked.
2 Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing, see that "Automatically recover from
page layout errors..." is checked.
- - -
For slowness and hanging:
1. With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall or re-enable browser add-ons, work
through this article:
936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us

Useful for recovering stored passwords before you clear all stored login
data:
IE PassView- NirSoft:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/interne..._password.html

What a reset of IE settings will do:
Windows Vista Help- Reset Internet Explorer settings:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...fe1771033.mspx

2. You may have an incompatible browser add-on installed. (Also covered in
step 1)
For troubleshooting information see:

IEBlog Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

928426- Internet Explorer 7 may exit immediately when it includes an add-on
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928426

Problem: Crashes or hangs
http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp

Slowness, hanging, crashing, etc. may also be caused by malware (trojans,
hijackers, spyware, etc.) has the computer always been protected by
(automatically updated) programs such as antivirus, security suite,
firewall, etc?

Hope this helps,

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2;
Win7 RC; Win7) when posting in a forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your
next reply.

When you use Internet Explorer 8, you cannot access your Webmail:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967894

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Thanks for all your info!!! I def learned a lot and will keep the info
handy..I know to include more info next time..I think what it came down to
was as simple as checking the "campatability view" ..Web mail works fine now
with that checked.. It has to be with IE8. I removed IE8 from 1 system and
the web mail was fine w/ IE7, I then downloaded IE8 and the web mail was
screwy again...somewhere in reading the info you sent as well as another I
tried the Page tab on the tool bar and then Compatibility View Settings and
added my web mail ...easy as that back in business!! Thanks Again!!
