After installing McAfee Site Advisor, it is "grayed out" in the toolbar
settings window of IE8, therefore I can't check it to turn it on. If the new
"Safety Filter" in IE8 tools menu is Microsoft's answer to relace Site
Advisor, it's a poor substitute.
Site advisor turns yellow or red when encountering a suspicious web site.
Safety Filter requires that the user determine if they find a suspicious web
site, then they Ask Microsoft if it's OK. Site Advisor is far superior.

Any suggestions to get it to work in IE8?

Since IE8 is still in beta, you should post your question/comment in its
newsgroup:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta

This isn't a Vista issue.

This is not an internet explorer newsgroup and even if it was IE8 is
prerelease software. Please follow Malke's advice.

I don't think that is an accurate description of IE8 SmartScreen Filter.
Microsoft's clearly states that it uses "an up-to-the-hour, dynamic list of
reported phishing sites and malicious software sites." Perhaps you turned
it off?

[extracted from
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/W...ked-questions]

What is SmartScreen Filter and how can it help protect me?

SmartScreen Filter is a feature in Internet Explorer that helps detect
phishing websites. SmartScreen Filter can also help protect you from
installing malicious software or malware, which are programs that
demonstrate illegal, viral, fraudulent, or malicious behavior.

SmartScreen Filter helps to protect you in three ways:

It operates in the background as you browse the web, analyzing webpages and
determining if they have any characteristics that might be suspicious. If it
finds suspicious webpages, SmartScreen will display a message giving you an
opportunity to provide feedback and advising you to proceed with caution.

SmartScreen Filter checks the sites you visit against an up-to-the-hour,
dynamic list of reported phishing sites and malicious software sites. If it
finds a match, SmartScreen Filter will show you a red warning notifying you
that the site has been blocked for your safety.

SmartScreen Filter also checks files downloaded from the web against the
same dynamic list of reported malicious software sites. If it finds a match,
SmartScreen Filter will show a red warning notifying you that the download
has been blocked for your safety.
