Iexplorer 7 locking up

Iexplorer 7 locking up I think when trying to contact Microsoft and firewall
'bloecked'.

After internet explorer is closed the ALL internet access is blocked via the
firewall.

Then the only task possible is restart the computer.
Internet activity address called just before and during lockup :

stats.update.microsoft.com 65.54.225.125 (just before blocking)
go.mict=rosoft.com 64.4.52.189
also
spynet2.microsoft.com 207.46.236.28

When computer (XP Professional) is closed down the "ending program not
responding- iexplorer" dialog is displayed.

How can I stop this lockup.

I see in http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx that
the recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
