Just a curiosity question - (just updated my 2 PCs at work and 1 at home
w/no problem.)

What if a peson was using a pirated copy of MS Windows? Would it just
say it could not update it? (I thought I saw something last year that
said MS would support all MS Windows software -- legit or not -- because
they were more concerned about people getting virii, etc.)

The pirates are not affected by Product Activation or Windows Genuine
Advantage. It only adversely affects paying customers. As soon as MS rolls
out another PR folly to stop piracy, the pirates come up with a work around.

This means that the "good guys" are left with only two
choices: (a) Eliminate the pirates or (b) License piracy.
And both can be handled quite easily. IIRC, in the ancient
days of DOS of 20 or so years ago, there was no avoidance
buying an OS with a computer...any computer. Moreover, in
those days, in order to enjoy an income tax depreciation on
computers, the IRS checked for the purchase of an OS along
with the equipment. We should go full circle back to this
concept.
