was a Car or a Plane M/soft would be facing the biggest class action brought
in the history of the planet.
I'm not aware of any other kind of product that would be allowed to keep on
being traded in such an "unfit for purpose" condition.

They get away with it because its software... not a tangible product.

Perhaps a global lawsuit for vista would make them get their quality up
again..

because man, vista is the lowest quality product I have ever seen by MS.

No offense, but it fits my purpose and those of many others.

Like wise, funnily enough I have no problems on my three machines here, and
I've yet to come across a friend who have issues with it - most of them
upgraded within a month or two of release, after I showed them my system in
action.

I've read the same comments about every version of Windows since 3.1.

Personally, for me, Vista works great. I love it!

Comment from an actual Vista user:

"I have read several related articles, and many posts including these, and have come to the following conclusion: Most of the Vista
complainers making noise here fall into three basic camps.

1) The "I hate Microsoft" crowd. They haven't tried Vista, or even seen it, but feel obligated to spread as much FUD as they can.
You can lump most of the Mac and Linux fans in this category.

2) The "you mean I have to learn something new?" crowd. They have at least seen Vista, but aren't interested in learning anything
new, so complain loudly that Vista is crap because thay don't know how to use it, and don't want to learn.

3) The smallest group by far. These are the ones who say "Help! I actually use Vista and have a problem. Can anyone help?"
Unfortunately, they tend to get drowned out by the first two groups, and many times have the misfortune of asking one of them for
help.

Remember the phrase "the squeaky wheel get the grease"? Most of us who run Vista have had no problems, are more than satisfied, and
aren't usually heard from. I have been running Vista for about 6 months now, and my experience is typical of others that I have
talked with. Vista is fast, reliable, stable, and much better looking than XP. The increased security is as advertised. I have been
scanning with Defender and Spybot since installing, and have yet to pick anything up. No viruses, either, but I hadn't seen a virus
in XP in quite a while, either. Vista also handled my printers, including a 5 year old HP all-in-one and a somewhat newer Brother
laser, with no difficulties. I have tried a variety of software, both old and new, and so far everything has worked. Overall, Vista
is way ahead of where XP was at the time.

I have been around for every new Windows release since the first, and I especially remember the hysteria around the release of Win98
and XP. The first two groups that I mentioned above were out in force for those events as well. After the dust settled, and people
actually began to try the new OS, they liked it. Many of those who complained the loudest about 98 when it first appeared were the
ones saying "stay with 98, XP is garbage" four years later. Now, we have a repeat. XP is louded as the best while Vista is trashed.
This trend actually goes back to the DOS days. Some things never change!"

I am glad that you qualified that statement with the word "most". I use XP, Vista, Linux, HP-UX, SunOS and W2K3, most
in the run of one work day, although I use Vista (home premium) only at home. I have not found anything in my Vista
installation which is causing me persistent grief other than speed issues and I will be adding another 1GIG stick this
week. I have found a couple of programs that won't run.. no big deal.. I'll use them on XP. And the network
connectivity is great in Vista. I can connect to my Samba shares without any problems at all. I do see the occasional
occurance of the print spooler stopping.. again..no big deal.. I go into services and restart it...

IMO, there is enough room for both *nix and Windows (and Mac), and while I prefer to work on *nix, Windows has its place as well.
As you can see, I am using slrn. I am connected to my Ubuntu Linux box from an XP machine, but I could do the exact same thing
from my Vista machine. It just "works"... which means I get the best of both worlds.

So, top posting Wintard, are you saying that *everyone* that bitched
about Windows Me just fit into the first two categories or what? Windows
Me was a disaster and Vista is the Windows Me of NT. The ONLY reasons
that MS released Windows Me were to make money and beta test it, using
paying customers to do the testing and then decided to dump Win 9x and
combined Me with W2K to give birth to XP. Vista is the beta testing that
Wintards like you and Frank pay to do so that MS can try to get Vienna
right, if they're still in the operating system business by then.

I'll put you down as undecided.

Or maybe Micros~1 will just put you down.
