How to ignore KB896688 ?

I use Windows Update to notify of new updates but no automatic updates.

Like millions of others I have the ActiveX (and other) problem(s) with
KB896688. The question is, how do I permanently make my XP installation
ignore this update. I would like this because I otherwise constantly have
the yellow shield icon in the System Tray plus the tooltip notification
about updates being ready for download.

Is there a way?

Perhaps a lawasuit against Microsoft for wasting our time with this
boondoggle of an update will convince them to solve the problem. That will
get it off the system tray and the update site once and for all!
