IIS will not start after update

After recent update on Windows 2003 Server, IIS service will not start with
the following error The IIS Admin Service service terminated with
service-specific error 2148073478 (0x80090006).

This is a production web server and I guess I can't trust the updates to
automatically install.

Hi,

Could be caused by update 902400 and access issues in the folder
%windir%\registration\ (%windir% is typically C:\Winnt or C:\Windows)

This issue is discussed in knowledge base article 909444:

I tried that and am now attempting to get it back up and running by
uninstalling all the updates installed last night. I hope this works.
