Hello, everyone.

I'm sorry if it looks as though I am repeating threads that already
exist, but after reading through all the questions and answers, I've not
found what I'm looking for.

I just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I managed to (I
think) successfully install IIS7.

However, when I type "localhost" into my browser, I keep getting the
HTTP 404 error. The page is just a very simple "hello" in html.

In my event log, I see there is an HTTP Event 15016..something about
Kerberos. However, I am not connected to a domain, so this should not be
a problem.

Any idea what I've done wrong? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What happens if you type in http://127.0.0.1 instead "Localhost?

Same thing. Just a blank page. I thought last night maybe I need a
hosts file like XP/Win98 has?

If you are actually getting a 404 (not IE's generic "Internet Explorer
cannot display the webpage") then you are at least getting the server
to respond.

If that's true, then the issue might simply be the name of the page
you created not being on the list of default page names that IIS is
looking for. Check the list of document names IIS looks for when no
page name is supplied - or better yet try to connect to
http://localhost/whateverYouCalledYourPage.typ and see if it finds
that.

After that I'd check to see if your page is in the right location
and/or protections are proper. You might try removing IIS and
reinstalling next; followed by testing to make sure that you can see
the default IIS page before making any changes.
