Hi
I'm running Vista x64 Home Premium and since installing the updates on
Tuesday 11th Nov. I've been getting the error

"Windows Failed To Start"
File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000f

When running the repair it complains that it can't find the OS on the boot
partition. The windows repair does fix the issue and reinstalls the boot
partition correctly at which point I can restart the computer and reboot the
PC correctly.

However this is happening virtually every time I shut down the PC and it's
driving me crazy.

Is this happening to anybody else or does anybody have a resolution to this
issue?

Thanks

Last month I had a problem involving a downloaded application and I was in
discussions with the provider's technician. After failing to find any problem
involving the application itself, I decided that maybe when I was downloading
the Windows Updates, something had gone wrong. So I set System Restore to the
point where it would uninstall the said updates. Then I downloaded the
updates a second time using Windows Update, and the problem was immediately
solved.

So you could try System Restore. But there is always one thing to advise:
before you start, please disable any setting in any antivirus program, such
as Norton, whereby such program seeks to protect itself against an outside
attacker. If you don’t take this step, you may find that System Restore fails
to work properly.

Cheers everybody for the quick and very helpful responses.

I've run the repair as suggested in one of the other responses. I've also
run a manual rebuild of the BCD as suggested here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9273...b/927391/en-us

I also ran the chkdsk /f /r as referred to in the link posted by pooch.

So far I haven't a reoccurrence of the problem so I'm hoping it has been
fixed If not I'll try to restore my system to an earlier restore point as
suggested by one of the other posts.

Thanks again to all who replied.

Quick update on this.

The problem has still been happening with the steps I've taken in my
previous posting. I've now done a system restore to the point before Windows
Updates were installed and this problem started.

So far (touch wood) I haven't had the issue again so I'm hoping this has
fixed the problem.
