Image burned in on screen

A "ghost image" burned itself into the desktop back ground after attempting
to run a DVD program. I have tried changing the back ground to another
picture, but the image persists. It does NOT however appear when I open
another app (eg. explorer, word, etc.) The DVD was in the drive for less
than a minute.
Any suggestions?

Does it go away if you restart the system?

Not really. I've done warm and cold boots to see if this would "go away".
What happens is the image is "burned" on the background. If I change
background pictures, it disappears. If I select the old background again, it
appears. More of an annoyance than anything else, however it screwed up a
great background picture.
