image files missing

When I go into control panel/default programs and check file associations my
image files (jpg, jpeg etc) are missing. This has never happened before.
Also under set your default program Paint is not listed. When I tried to
open a jpg file I created with Paint it says Windows can not open this file.
I can still open it by right clicking on file but I want my image files back
in default programs/associate a file type. Does anyone know how to get the
image files back?

Thanks that worked. What about missing programs under default programs/set
your default programs. A lot of my programs are not listed in there.
