Images stripped out of source code

After I updated WinXP Home to SR2, the Java Script engine had to be
reinstalled as the update had done something to it. I can now use Java Script
most of the time but am still having problems with it and am unable to view
some jpegs in the IE browser (latest version). As long as I open the HTML
file on my desktop, I can see all the images, but as soon as I upload it to a
website, half the images are stripped out.

If I look at the source code, the image tags are stripped out. If the images
are in a table, the table code is still there, but the image tags are
stripped out. This problem is affecting IE, Netscape, Firefox, and Opera.
There is no red "X" box either, just a blank space.

I've cleared the cache, checked that images can be displayed, checked the
firewall setting, turned off the firewall, etc.

I found this page - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817177 but when I
tried to install the latest version of IE, it said that a newer version was
already installed and would not continue. I did not have this problem before
installing XP SR2 and IE SP1.

Any additional ideas on how to fix this? It's driving me batty.

Only a misconfigured security product or adscraper would do that.

Which firewall? Some of them have to be *removed* or there are still
active bits left over. Even then there was at least one which was notorious
for not even uninstalling correctly and leaving active bits left over.
(Detailed manual removal instructions on its website.)

<title>KB817177 - Image files do not appear when you view a Web page with Internet Explorer 6 SP1</title>

Internet Explorer cannot display the image because it cannot
recognize when the image has been completely downloaded

That is not your symptom. It does not explain your observation
of the source change.

XPsp2 *is* the latest version of IE. It's integrated in it now and referred
to in that form as IE6sp2. Therefore you would not be able to install IE6sp1
without uninstalling XPsp2.

It ended up being the Norton Internet Security that I'd thought I'd
disabled. I've totally uninstalled Norton as I already have Sygate Firewall
and Spysweeper installed.

Thanks for responding.
