Greetings Andrew,
Quick answer: you don't.
Longer answer: There's nothing stopping you from using Messenger inside of a company where
you have Internet access. However, there is no way to directly setup an internal server that
operates of MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger nor is there any group policy options,
formal deployment guides or any enterprise level support.
There's lots of other options available though. Some free, some not, depending on what
you're looking for. Free-wise, if you're okay with installing third party clients and
software, there are a number of possible IM solutions. There's also software from Symantec
and others to deal with internal IM traffic and prevent non authorized contacts from talking
to your users. There's also Microsoft's own Office Communications Server combined with
Office Communicator which can provide some really amazing integrated solutions (including
allowing direct external access to the public IM networks from your own server).
