I don't believe that there is any option to import calendar data from anywhere
into Windoows Live Mail.
A woorkaround, assuming that you have Outlook 2003 installed, is to download and
install the Outlook Connector -
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...010222518.aspx
Set it up to sync with your Hotmail account. Your Calendar is now in Outlook
along with the main calendar for Outlook. You can then drag/drop appointments
from the main calendar to the Hotmail Calendar in Outlook and these will sync to
the server. Windows Live Mail will then sync these back down.

Do note that this newsgroup exists only on news servers that do not honor the
remove group message. It is no longer originated on a Microsoft news server.

Many thanks. I had Outlook Connector on my 2003 but recently removed it
because I could not figure out what to do with it!

Your message also prompts me to ask for illumination - what is the
difference between Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Hotmail?
I am confused!!

Hi, Roger.

> difference between Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live

Your confusion is completely understandable - and shared by MANY users!
Blame the confusion on Microsoft's program-naming crew. :>(

You didn't ask about Outlook versus Outlook Express, but I'll start with
those anyhow:

Outlook is part of the Window Office package, although it also is available
separately. It handles email, but is not a newsreader.

Outlook Express was an integral part of WinXP (and several prior versions of
Windows). It handles both email and newsgroups. It will not run on Vista
or Win7.

Windows Mail was an integral part of Vista. It is essentially an updated
version of Outlook Express 6. Some users have made it work in Win7, but it
officially will not run in anything but Vista.

Windows Live Mail is an updated version of Windows Mail. During beta, it
was called Windows Live Hotmail or Windows Live Desktop (beta), but those
names were discarded before WLM was released in 2006. Now it is available
standalone, or as a part of the Windows Live Essentials bundle, along with
Windows Live Photo Gallery, Windows Live Movie Maker and other components.
WLM will run on any recent version of Windows. It is not included in Win7
(or any other Windows version), but must be downloaded and installed. (Many
computer vendors pre-install it along with Win7, so many users think that it
is a part of Win7, but it is not. Win7 is the first version of Windows
since Win95 that comes includes NO email program at all.)

I hope this clarifies a few points.

Fyi...you must use the same Hotmail account Live ID to sign on to Windows Live services in Windows Live Mail that was setup as the
email account in the the Outlook Connector (in Outlook)
- if not, then nothing will sync down from the web server (i.e. sync only occurs for the signed on Live ID to/from the web server)
- if desired, you can copy messages to the Hotmail account folders in Outlook (with the Connector) then sync those messages up to
the server, setup the same Hotmail account using http in WLM then allow those messages on the server to sync down. Caution...if a
large volume of messages, it may take time to sync up and down since both locations need to update all databases and indexes and
its important to not interrupt the process (which may corrupt data).

I would if I could. Having recently removed the Outlook Connector, I cannot
seem to re-install. I have downloaded the software, which appeared to
install with no problems, but no "Outlook Connector" tab appears on my
Outlook! Tried uninstalling and re-installing to same effect.

I have added my normal email address to Hotmail and can now successfully
interact with WLM (which I now understand is the current name for WLH), and
have imported my contacts from Outlook and cleaned up the results. Now all
I need to be able to do is 'import' my calendar and then I presume I no
longer need Outlook 2003. From your original response it would seem that I
really do need the Outlook Connector. Any ideas?

It has been quite a while since I installed and used the Outlook Connector.
Try adding your Hotmail account to Outlook. If the Connector is installed, i
believe that it takes over the job of setting up the account and the transport.

To clarify the great post from RC to answer your other question about Windows
Mail, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Hotmail - Windows Mail (as noted, part
of Vista) and Windows Live Mail are related as they both are branches from the
Outlook Express code. Windows Live Mail added features unavailable in Windows
Mail and also left out some of the Windows Mail functionality initially.
Windows Live Mail continues to be available as a download. The latest version
only installs on Vista or Windows 7.
Windows Live Hotmail is basically Hotmail with a longer name. :-)

I tried to set up an account with Hotmail, but fell at the first hurdle
because Outlook 2003 is a bit old now and uses earlier terminology. Should
I create an account through MS Exchange Server, HTTP or an IMAP? Is MS
Exchange Server still a valid product? If IMAP, what are the server settings
I should use for Hotmail?

I tried the HTTP option which mentioned Hotmail that appeared to work but
after creation it produced a message that
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp is closed (or words to
that effect, it did not appear for very long).

How now, brown cow?

Well, that would certainly suggest that the Connector did not install properly.
If we ignore for a bit that your goal is to get your Outlook Calendar data up to
the Hotmail calendar so that it appears in Windows Live Mail and focus simply on
the fact that the Connector doesn't install and you had it installed previously,
you might want to post in the Outlook forum under the Office area at
http://answers.live.com

Another alternative would be to get a Google Mail account, sync your calendar to
Google Calendar from Outlook using this utility:
http://support.google.com/calendar/b...n&answer=98565
Once your calendar is in Google Calendar, export the calendar from the web -
Calendar, Settings, Calendars tab. This will create a local ical file zipped.
Unzip that to become an .ical file.
Go to calendar.live.com and select Subscibe and Import from an ics file. Select
the ical file and import it into your Windows Live Calendar.
Open the Calendar in Windows Live Mail and your events should be there.
If you wish to skip the export to ical and import, you can add the Google
Calendar so you have multiple calendars in Windows Live Mail.
In the Google Calendar, Settings, click on your calendar name and there will be
a green icon under Private Address. Right click it to copy the URL address.
Then, in Windows Live Calendar, select Subscribe, Subscribe to a Public
calendar, and paste the URL, select a color, and subscribe.
In Windows Live Mail, you will now see the added calendar.

One addition regarding Windows Live Mail
- Logon with the same Live ID to Windows Live services in Windows Live Mail to sync any calendar previously added to the respective
Live ID's calendar in the web UI at Calendar.live.com
