i have 2 vista laptops the same. i try to backup windows mail messages by
importing to the second laptop using a USB drive. it seems to work but then
the 'imported' folder has NO messages. i try again but always the same.
iot did ask if i wanted to export with no properties, so i did that. i was
never asked to include the properties in the first place. is there a way
when exporting to include the message 'properites'?

Ignore the warning about loss of properties.
The export/import process loses some metadata, such as the 'read'
status and account flag, but that can't be helped.

Note that you can't export to, or import from external media directly.
You must use your hard drive as the intermediary.

FYI, I think that the the message "properties" are in the "message store".

I don't have an answer but it might help the experts if you can clarify
something. Do you want to only duplicate the messages to the second laptop
or do you want to merge from one to the other? Do you want to synchronize
the two so you can download using either one then synchronize the two?

If you never download (receive) messages to the second laptop then that will
be easier to do. If you need to download using either and then synchronize
then you should use IMAP; do you have an account you can use IMAP with?
