Import to WLM (Win 7) from Windows Mail

Having been happy with Outlook Express and then reluctantly Windows Mail, I
was a bit disappointed to see that WLM was the option for Win 7 (which I do
like).

As I have tried WLM before (last used in January 09) I didn't need to set up
from scratch, but I seem to have only added recent messages to those that
finished in January.

I have run the import three times now, the last time from a restored copy of
the file structure from before the upgrade to Win 7. The import routine of
WLM appears to be working and I see it go through the messages and the folder
structure, but I don't seem to see anything "new" in the WLM folders after it
has completed the routine.

Is there some sort of flag that I need to reset or do I default WLM back to
the beginning in order for this to work please?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Regards - Terry

Have you looked in the Storage Folders ?
If not shown
- WLM Menu/View/Layout/Folder Pane/Show Storage folders

If not present, are you importing from a prior message store of
a. OE
b. WM
c. WLM

If (c), was this an export of WLM messages or a copy of the Message store and its folders ?
If and export, can a message(e.g. *.eml) from an exported folder be dragged into a folder into WLM ?

Hi, Terry.

In addition to Winston's tips...

> As I have tried WLM before (last used in January 09)

There have been updates to WLM since January. Please download the current
version (14.0.8089.0726) - and any others of the Live Essentials that you
might want - from:
http://download.live.com

Thanks Winston.

I have (now) looked in the Storage Folders and I was importing the messages
from Windows Mail.

As I say, I could see the import routine going through the WM backup, each
of the folders was "listed" and the message count went the way it ought to.
There are 8,000+ messages that imported but don't seem to appear anywhere.

Thanks again for the prompt reply.

Regards - Terry

Thanks R C. I will see if I can update it.

During the Win 7 upgrade the section that was going to add the Live objects
seemed to fail on all points but it allowed me to go around this and as I
didn't need the majority of the features I was happy to leave them for
another day.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply RC.

I have discovered the imported messages.

After your pointer to the storage folders, I took another look this morning
and there is an imported folder and further down an "imported folder (1)" a
bit further down and nested in here under "local folders" is the inbox that I
was looking for.

The original "imported folder" is from when I tried WLM earlier in the year
(April) and I hadn't seen this new inbox folder, which appears to be at one
level lower than it used to be, i.e. all of the folders that were below inbox
seem to be at the same level now.

I will now move the messages to the top level inbox.

Thanks again to you and RC for the pointers and assistance.

Regards - Terry
