From where? Use your 64-bit shortcut. Otherwise, you will get a 64-bit one
if you link from another 64-bit program and 32-bit from a 32-bit program.

Usual procedure. Each file type you want, open a file using right click and
'open with' browse to the 64-bit version and make sure it is checked to
always use this program for this file type.

It is already the default. Check Task Manager.

#2 is covered by:

That's a short version that links to a fuller version of How To. The key is
the SwapTo flag and the Path value.

Those articles should cover it in full. If you have any troubles, lemme
know. Should be pretty straight-forward. =)

TIP * To start the player in Now Playing, update your WMP shortcut to be
"wmplayer.exe /Task:NowPlaying"

Responds "The name ... specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure
the path and file name are correct.

Right, that's guidance, not the explicit text to add. =)

"%programfiles(x86)%\windows media player\wmplayer.exe" /Task:NowPlaying
or
"%programfiles%\windows media player\wmplayer.exe" /Task:NowPlaying

would be more appropriate for your Vista system.

Thanks all, I am sorry to say that at first I was kind of disappointed
by John Barnes's answer and I didn't check back here but now I'll try
the other solutions shown here. I'll give all the detailed results here,
maybe it will help others too.

THANK ALL OF YOU

cosmin2007,

It would be nice to know exactly what you are referring to.

C.B.
Unfortunately he is posting from the crappy web interface no-mx.forums.net.
It seems there is nothing quoted when they reply. Of course they could copy
and paste which would be helpful. Better yet they could use an actual
newsreader.
One can only hope.
