I have managed to create duplicate bookmarks using other procedures so
I don't believe there is a general purpose "duplicate checker".
Whether the import function has a special purpose one is easy enough
to test:
Export your current favorites (for later recovery if needed).
Import your IE5 favorites.
Check for duplicates or any other undesirable conditions.
Decide if you want to keep the current set of favorites (with
whatever manual adjustments you choose to make).
If not, delete all bookmarks, import the ones that were saved
in step 1, and think about what to do next. (I usually create a
special "import" folder, import to that, and then use the organizer to
move things to their desired locations.)
