importing data from xp to vista

hi
i hope this is the right place for my question.
i installed vista and left my old xp (because when i tried to update my xp
to vista it didn't work) can i somehow now transfer my data from the xp? i
mean my old programs like icq winamp and such things? or i only can install
everything from the begining?
thanks for your help.
hope i wrote correctly cause i am from Israel and my English is not perfect.

Vista is beta - this is a TEST machine, correct? Not a production machine?
Vista is not ready to go in production.

As for old programs - same as before - you need to reinstall the
applications from the installation media/files.
