Hi,

I am upgrading to Win 7 and with no email client on Win 7 I have downloaded
WLM and would like to transfer my messages. When I use the import in Win 7 it
transfers the messages but does not transfer the newest messages???

Can I open WM & WLM and drag and drop the new messages to theri respective
folders?

If not what can I do to have the new messages added to the old for import?

Thanking you in advance.

Ricky

I'm not quite clear on your setup.

Are you running both Win7 and Vista side by side and wanting to receive
new messages in both programs?

What kind of mail account are you using? POP3, IMAP or HTTP?

For IMAP and HTTP, both programs should get all new messages
automatically.

For POP3, in each program look at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Advanced. You want Leave a copy of messages on the server in both
programs. You may want the delete messages after xx days in at least
one of them. With those settings, both programs should get all new
messages.

If a Gmail account, special settings are needed.

As for the new messages that you got in WM prior to the above changes
and need to get over to use double drag-and-drop to move the messages
over. Create an empty Windows folder. Then in WM select all the
messages in a folder, then drag-and-drop to the Windows folder. Then
select all the messages in the Windows folder and drag-and-drop into an
WLM folder of your choice.

You need to always start the first drag-and-drop into an empty Windows
folder because of the way the EML files are named. So you need to use
either a separate Windows folder for each WLM/OE/WM folder, or after
completing the second drag-and-drop empty the Windows folder and then
reuse it for the next WLM/OE/WM folder to move.

Mike -

I have an HP desktop running Windows Vista and have recently purchased a HP
laptop running Win7. I did read about Windows Mail being deceased when it
came to Win7, so I downloaded Windows Live Mail onto the laptop and manually
configured the settings for the same POP3 server settings as the WM on the
desktop. (I also configured the server settings as you mentioned). I can
receive new mail, but I cannot get any of my OLDER info to transfer - no
inbox, no other folders that I had set up. I have looked at the storage
folders (nothing there) and when I try to import, the import function on WLM
always asks where to find my messages and then I'm stuck. I do have a SanDisk
storage stick, but have not been able to make anything work when I try to
move info from one computer to another.
(Both computers are also on the same wireless network, but I haven't been
able to make them share files yet and that is NOT my main issue, I'm more
concerned about getting the older email info.)

Thanks in advance for any info you could share!!

In order to be able to import the messages on Win7, you'll need to be
able to physically copy the messages from old PC.

The SanDisk would probably be your best bet.

But you say that you've not be able to get anything to work with it.
When you insert it in a USB port, it should show up as a disk drive.
Does not that happen? Can you not see files on it or copy files to it?

As for copying the messages, you'd need to copy the Vista Message Store
to the USB drive. I don't know if Windows Mail has an export option for
that. If not look in the WM settings for the location of the Store
folder.

You'd then need to copy that to a empty folder on Win7 and tell WLM to
import from that.
