Importing OE data into WLM with format conversion

I am trying to move from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail but the
way WLM import function does it is that it copies all the OE folders
into a separate WLM Imported Folders container in the OE (.dbx) format.
It does not convert the OE dbx data to the WLM format.
Is there a method I could use to move my OE folders and their content to
WLM while the format is also converted, and *without* creating the
separate Imported Folders container? I'd like both the Mail and News
group folders in WLM to look the same as in OE, with all the separate
accounts I have on OE. Has anybody here done this before?

Sure it does.
WLM imports prior email clients messages to the Storage folders/Imported
folders/<subfolders>
- create folders in the email account or the Storage folders and copy the
messages, once satisfied that all your message copies are in order,
accessible, and intact...then delete the contents of the imported folders
(the alternative is to leave them exactly where they imported and access
them in that location).
- Note: and important one - removal of a pop3 account in WLM will delete
the account and all messages from WLM and the hard drive. (another good
reason to archive messages in WLM's Storage folders - whose content can
only be deleted at the request and manually by the user)

WLM creates a separate folder structure (by design) for each email account
in Mail mode and a separate folder for each news server in News Mode.
Wysiwyg.
- making it look like OE is not possible

Thanks. I think I've got everything now over to WLM. The only thing I am
still wondering how to copy the OE address list to the WLM Contacts.

Copy the *.wab file from the OE machine to a user permissioned folder on
the WLM machine (e.g. Documents or My Documents)

Click on the Contacts icon(bottom of left hand pane) in WLM to open the
contact list
- hit ALT to bring up the menu bar if not already present
- click File > Import > Windows Address Book (.WAB)
- navigate to the folder containing your wab file etc

Note:
1. OE used Groups, WLM uses Categories
- be prepared to recreate Categories and populate each with contacts

2. Some data may not import due to differences in contact fields, some
unfixed problems with OE method of storing address book data, etc. Again be
prepared to make some corrections or data entry (especially if multiple
email addresses were present for a given contact in OE)

Finally, your version of WLM is 2009. If using Vista or Win7, you might
consider updating to 2011. If continuing to use 2009 these might interest

Thanks again, Winston. After I found the directory where the .wab file
was located, importing it into WLM went without a problem. As to your
comment about Groups and Categories, well, it might be a moot point for
me as I never used Groups and I probably won't use Categories, either.
Once I have a little more time I'll check those links you gave me. Maybe
they will convince me about the usefulness of categories.
