Importing Windows Mail contacts into Windows Live Mail

I've just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista. I backed up my Windows Mail
Contacts folder to another hard drive, but didn't export them. Now I find
that I can't open a distribution group (".group" in my old contacts) or
import any contactsinto Windows Live Mail. The contact format is "Joe
Bloggs.contact". I don't want to have to manually recreate my groups in Live
Mail if I can avoid it. Thanks, Les

How are you attempting to import those Windows Mail contacts?
From within Windows Live Mail: open Contacts, press Alt to get the
File menu, File, Import, "Address book for current Windows user".
If it can't find the WM contacts, copy them to C:\Users\username\Contacts.
