Impossible connexion to WU

Hello,

Since a few days I can't use "Widows Update". Firstly I don't get easily
connected to WU, once connected it researches into my system what's to be
downloaded and forwards the results.
Are any files to be downloaded I press the "download and
install button"
At once the WU page gets frozen and it's impossible to close it up. I have
to use the "Tasks Manager" to close WU.
At this time and in spite of of all my efforts in view of getting some help
I got nothing.

Many thanks for replying.
No, KIS isn't monitoring port 443 which isn't in the list of ports..
My anti-spyware tool says that "Alexa Description installed with Internet
Explorer". Is that the reason ?.
On the other hand I know that many friends of mine can't get updates from WU
in France.

Perhaps you have not gotten SP2 for Windows XP? Internet Explorer 6
stopped using the Alexa "what's related" spyware after service pack 1.

Your Outlook Express seems to be badly out of date - the link should
tell you if you have SP2 or not. If not, you need to get it.

I'm sorry but I'm still running Windows 2000 Pro which seems to me the best
one of the Windows family.
Do you really think that updating to XP2 Sp2 would allow me using WU ?. I
never got into trouble with this OS. My OE6 is the one installed with IE6
and is running very good.

Do a manual visit to Windows Update either with the link on the Start
Menu or open Internet Explorer and click Tools, Windows Update.
When the system fails to connect or download updates, close IE.
Now go to Start > Run > type in or copy and paste the below into the
Open: line

%windir%\windowsupdate.log
Click OK or press Enter
The WindowsUpdate.log will now be open.
Please copy and paste the last 50 or so lines of it into your reply.

Which version of KIS is installed, is it monitoring port 80, and is
there a place in Options/Preferences where one can add safe URLs ?

There is definitely a time-out issue showing in the log but no error
codes are coming up at all. Suggest you work your way back up in the log
from here [ back up meaning to an earlier point in time ]:

and look for FATAL or WARNING entries.
