Is there a size limit on the inbox in Windows Mail, i.e. is there still a
2GB limit on the size of the inbox before it goes haywire?

For some reason I can't seem to figure out how to pull messages off of this
newsgroup older than today, sorry, so this may be an old question....

Why would you want to store that much mail in the inbox?
Long before that 2GB limit is reached (if there is a limit), the
program would get so sluggish that it would be a real pain.

Does the new Windows Mail need to have folders compacted? I can't find a
command for it.

Yes compaction is a must, since it removes wasted space in the data base.

It operates automatically after 100 closings of WM.

The compaction setting is at WM>tools>options>advanced tab>maintenance.

If you wish you can reduce the ###.

To compact immediately change it to 1>Apply>close WM.

Let it complete, and leave WM alone for a while afterwards, because I have
noticed plenty of CPU activity after the compaction complete dialogue goes
away.

Reset the compaction ### next time you open WM.

You can also manually compact with www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

No. There is no limit now. The message store format has changed and the
messages are now stored individually and not in a single file as in OE. see
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

Go to Tools | Options | Read and uncheck the option to download xxx headers
at a time and then you will get all the messages.
