Inconsistant connection using WMP12 + 2008 MediaStreamer

No sure if anyone can make suggestions for this one.

Getting connection errors C00D1199 from Window7 clients with WMP12 - but its
not consistent. One machine can make a connect, another can not - same
platform in both cases?
However a connection can be made consistently with using the URL address for
the MMS path as found in the asx file.

The setup is as follows:
Encoder forwards stream to win2k8 streamer - asx file is created using
wizard then placed on an IIS5 webserver under the radio stations website.
There is a DNS entry for the listenlive link pointing to the website holding
the asx file for that station. Of course, with the asx file it points to the
mms URL on the streaming server.

The Streamer is in a hosted VM so it may even be a resource issue, although
I doubt it. To be honest the connection results are so random its hard to see
a patten.

Anyone seen this before or suggest some changes to the setup?

Further testing shows that VLC works flawlessly with the .asf files

So what's up with MS products not talking with each other?

A work around it seems it to use the embedded player in the announcement
wizard.
This made connections (to this date of testing anyway) consistent. The user
can then still launch their own player from the provided launch button in the
page.
