I've been waiting about a week. 0 items are indexed, I've tried turning the
service on and off, searched KB.

Any help? Thanks.

I was able to fix this by resetting the disk cache to a fixed cache just
to get the old one to overwrite. But before rebooting. Through the
control panel, system, check your computers windows index - you'll get
the Adjusting Indexing Options on the left. I changed the location.
And reset to default. (getting stuck at the indexing screen was fixed
by Task Manager) and this path would let me back in. Anyways, rebooted
and it's working (for now).

I'll probably reset the Disk Cache when the index completes.

Or, the simple way: go to "Indexing Options" in the "Control Panel"; click
"Advanced" and then click "Restore Defaults." Select the affirmative
response to any prompts. Restart your computer.

If the index is broken - try to select change or restore anything to do
with it and the screen will state something like checking the index and
nothing changes even if you leave your computer on for days; and the
only way to exit the control panel index is through ending the process
in task manager - try my solution.

I know, I had the same problem. You have to options, one is to "Rebuild" and
the other is to "Restore Defaults." Rebuild freezes it, but restore is
designed to fix this problem + most people can figure out how to do it. I'm
not saying your solution is a bad idea, but why reinvent the wheel and make
it overly complicated if the simpler solution works. Sorry if I hit a nerve.
